ALISO VIEJO, CA September 26, 2007 – Long before he began his career in researching human potential, psychology and natural law as it relates to one’s sense of self and the resulting effect on one’s career, well-known speaker and author Steve McCann was a salesman. And not just any salesman; McCann wheeled and dealed on a daily basis in the big stakes game of high-pressure, million-dollar deals within the playground of Fortune 500 companies. His problem? He wasn’t a very good one.
By his own admission, McCann says his first few years in the world of corporate sales was like a roller coaster, one that could be characterized in four simple words; “Good month, Bad month.” McCann recalls how he would have a run-up of a few months of strong activity, but eventually the bad month would roll back around and slap him down a few notches, causing frustration, self-doubt and probably not a small amount of financial insecurity. Searching for a solution to resolve his problem, McCann began attending sales skills seminars and soaking up as much knowledge as possible. Still the pattern remained until one day he ran across a concept he hadn’t encountered before, one which he said completely revolutionized his career, a concept called “The Snap-Back Effect”.
Explains McCann, “Understanding this concept helped me to move from the good month/bad month cycle to consistent production. The goals that I kept setting every month but never got to; this helped me get there, and in a relatively short amount of time."
As often is the case when we discover our bliss, the discovery of this concept made such an impact on McCann’s career he became fascinated with understanding the how and why of what made it work, and it ultimately helped lead him to where he is today. He is a published author in teaching the correlation between the self-image and production levels in business, and looking back on sixteen successful years analyzing and teaching others on the very concept that so completely changed his own career, and ultimately his life.
McCann shares some of insights he’s learned over the years, including some of the key principles of the “Snap-Back Effect,” in this week’s RIS Media/iSucceed Business Development and Training Call, “Break Free of Self-Limiting Beliefs to Achieve Unconventional Results in Your Career.” The interview, hosted by iSucceed’s own Kelly Kelley, will be available for one week at www.isucceed.com/rismedia.
Delving into the phenomenon of the roller coaster career, McCann will explain why it happens, how it happens and why human nature dictates that it will continue to happen unless you short circuit the process. The answers will surprise you, make you think and inspire you to new heights of success.
