Recieved by Stephen Martin
ALISO VIEJO, CA – January 17, 2007 – At their annual conference in Newport Beach last week, RealtyU, the largest network of schools and colleges in the real estate industry, presented its premier award; the Barry Richardson Lifetime Achievement Award. Previously known as the Chairman’s Award, this award was renamed in 2005 and presented in memory of Barry Richardson, one of the co-founders of RealtyU. The Award was presented this year to Stephen J. Martin, owner of RealtyU Affiliate in Indiana, Real Estate Certification Program (RECP). In presenting the award, RealtyU Chairman Stefan Swanepoel said that the award was “In sincere acknowledgement of the outstanding achievement, unmatched leadership and significant contribution Steve has made to strengthen real estate education in general.”
Martin is an author, business and association consultant and educator who has 30 years experience in executive and professional education, much of it focused on real estate education. He developed the national award-winning statewide (35 college campuses) continuing education programs for the real estate business for Indiana University from 1970 to 1982 when he was a member of the Indiana University faculty and staff. These programs were administered through the Indiana University Center for Professional Growth and Development, of which Martin held the position of Director. Martin is also a graduate of the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University, matriculated in the Indiana University Law School and worked toward an Ed.D. at the Indiana University School of Education.
In 1984 he served as the National President of the Real Estate Educators Association, creating the Distinguished Real Estate Instructor (DREI) professional certification during his term. He has received numerous awards from different industries for his development and administration of professional certification programs to over 27 different industries, and has overseen the delivery of executive education to over 250,000 individuals since 1970.
RealtyU also this week announced the recipient of its Pinnacle Award, given in recognition of the highest performing school within the RealtyU Network of Schools. This year the outstanding school for 2006 was Champions School of Real Estate with offices in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, Texas. Champions School of Real Estate is owned by Rita Santamaria and has been providing the highest quality education for Texas real estate agents since 1983.
The Champions Team attributes the 23-year successful growth of their business to "word of mouth" referrals from their loyal clientele. They strive to provide the "total learning experience." The instructors are well trained and current, the environment is always refreshingly clean with stylish décor, and the students know Champions truly cares about their success.
Rita Santamaria, President of Champions, was previously honored with the Small Business Leader for the Year 2001 Award for NW Houston, and was the 2003 RealtyU Educator of the Year.
Other awards bestowed at the conference included the Pacesetter Awards for exceptionally high performance and professional contribution to IFREC Real Estate Schools (FL), Hugh Ryall Seminars (SC), Polley Associates (PA) and Tri-State Real Estate Schools (PA); and awards in recognition of being outstanding educators during 2006 went to Mark Barker of Continuing Education Services (KS/MO), Philip Schoewe of TARREC (TX), Francis McCarthy (PA) and Fred Preator of Pro-Ed (SD).
